Leave the Light On
“For me, sitting at the piano is like standing before the ocean, its music stretching beyond the horizon of what my senses can feel. I’m surround by something much greater than me, something larger than my life and its specks of joys and problems. Here my hands participate in the grand sound of living music, where apart from this place there is artificial noise and distraction. The grand instrument draws my fingers into the greatness of its landscape and my heart into its beauty and feeling. Here I come alive and pray and meet with Beauty. We dance together… I’m never more at home than here before the music.” - Kellie Haddock
Creating Leave the light on
Several years ago our family was in a tragic car accident that killed my first husband, AJ, instantly and severely injured our son Eli. Many of these songs have been born out of the forging fire that grief has been for my heart and how I see life after such a tragedy. God's love and faithfulness has been so evident throughout it all. He has been with me in my darkest hours, weeks and years. He has been with me in the best moments of my life, in the ordinary of the everyday and everything in between. I’m now blessed with God’s provision of Ted to be my new husband and father to Eli and we’ve since been blessed with two more children!
A couple of years ago while we were living in Washington, DC I was learning how to live life on the other side of tragedy. Simultaneously, two dear friends of mine entered intense suffering. One losing her sister to cancer and another birthing a child only to hold them and kiss their toes for 5 minutes before the child passed away. My heart broke for these women and families. It brought up my own pain and made the severity of life very real. We can only walk through such suffering with community and relationships surrounding us and buoying us through these hard times. I wanted more than anything to be that kind of friend to them. I sat down at the piano to process their pain, my pain and what it means to be a friend with someone who is suffering. Leave the Light On is what I wrote...

River of healing
Have you ever been surprised by peace?
Peace is something we all desire yet it can often seem evasive and illusive. You can’t force peace. You can’t conjure it up. It doesn’t come with emotional hype and acrobatics. Peace is something we surrender ourselves into. It comes from trusting, from resting, from letting go of control.
Often I see peace as a river that’s constantly flowing near us. We can’t contain the river. We didn’t create the river. The river was here long before we ever were.
All we need to do is take the courageous move to step into the river, to wade into its soothing waters.
The river is God.
The peace He offers is pure and sweet. A constant flow of goodness.
As you enter the river its healing waters will soothe your soul. Lay on your back and float there a while. Enjoy the peace that only comes from being near to God.
As you soak there think of the blessings you’ve been given, how you’ve been provided for time and again. You too might begin to feel surprised by peace.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He’s been faithful to bring you this far, He will be faithful in what you are facing today and anything that might come your way tomorrow.
Let the river refresh you now. The water is sweet, filled with love that runs deep and wide.

River of Healing
When your words are gone
There’s nothing left to be said
The cadence of waves wash
Wash over, over you
The surging tide sweeps the night away
As goodness and mercy
Wash over, over you
Surprised by peace
Surprised by peace
This river’s unknown
Its power untamed
Calling, calling
You deeper, deeper still
Surprised by peace
Surprised by peace
Clouds begin to fade
That shroud this place
Clouds fade away
Reveal new grace
Surprised by peace
Surprised by peace
You’re standing at the edge
Your toes in the stream
Slowly, slowly you walk deeper, deeper still
The water moves through your hair
Refreshes you through
As goodness and mercy wash over, over you
It washed the layers of mire away
Away, away…
Surprised by peace
Surprised by peace
