Where the Grass is Actually Green

“Where you are right now is God’s place for you. Live and obey and love and believe right there.” 1 Cor 7:17 MSG

This strikes in so many different areas of my heart. It’s hard to even know what direction to take this.

I think contentment rises to the top.

How much heart energy do we spend being disappointed that things are not different? We can feel like we’re ’less than’ when we see others who are at ‘A’ when we seem to be stuck at ‘B’. We can quickly feel our efforts or our gifts are not valuable when we expect one thing yet experience another.

We can quickly assume the grass actually is greener on the ‘other side’.

It’s not.

Discontentment binds our hearts with an impenetrable weight.

But there is hope and there is truth big enough to speak to our discontent and unlock its gnarly chains.

Oh I must be careful what I say lest I sound like some contentment expert, which I’m not!

But these words feel like an open window letting in a refreshing breeze on my soul. My hope in sharing this is that they do the same for you.

There is so much freedom in living, loving, obeying and believing right where we are - today. There’s no benefit in waiting to begin these things until we have ‘arrived’ at some arbitrary place we deem more valuable than where we are RIGHT NOW.

That is only a distraction that hinders us from being fully present now, in as much as it’s called today.

We don’t get do overs in life, at least not with the time and days we are given. Today is YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW. Don’t wait around for something else, don’t waste a moment wishing something was different. Lean into today. Do this day well. Love well and live well today. Find something, there is ALWAYS something, to be grateful for.

Resist the talons of discontent. Identify them, name them, and banish them as the deception that they are.

Where you are right now is God’s place for you. Live and obey and love and believe right there.
