QUIET, QUIET

Today I’m craving quiet. For some of you, you’re likely craving a break FROM the quiet. It seems two contrasting realities are happening all around.

Both tug on the need for our souls to be soothed.

This was a challenging week. I felt completely overwhelmed by the task of suddenly trying to figure out how to homeschool 3 very different kids (one with special needs) and balancing work and all the other responsibilities of home life. I felt like I was drowning and now that it’s Saturday I need refreshment - this new quarantine reality is far more exhausting than how life was for us before.

For others, it’s been yet another week of isolation and separation from those you love. Grandparents aching for hugs from their grandkids is a story I keep hearing again and again. This is hard for all of us, even if it brings different kinds of hard.

It feels important to pause and acknowledge the different challenges we each are facing and yet simultaneously realize we are all in the same boat.

I wrote this song Quiet, Quiet after a long tiring day when I needed to exhale and take a deep breath. I also wrote this song during a time when I was facing one of the biggest fears I’ve experienced - going to Iraq at the height of all the ISIS craziness. All of this turned out to be more beautiful than I ever imagined (and that story is a different post for a different time).

God was providing for me then, He’s providing for me now. He’s got you, He’s got us, He’s got the whole world in His hands…still.

This song and the poignancy it carries, ties all of this together. It speaks to fear, speaks to feeling overwhelmed, speaks to our need for our souls to soak in beauty. It reminds us how nature is so healing. I believe we need this today as much as ever. So as I share this song with you now my prayer is that it brings refreshment in the specific ways you need today. May it be a healing balm for your soul.

“Echo over me under stars and trees. Gentle lullabies in the skies and seas. Fears lose their hold on me. It’s quiet, quiet.”

- Find Quiet, Quiet from my studio album Wild Love anywhere you listen to music. And if you are grateful for this song today, please send it to someone else you want to refresh with this lullaby. 🎶
